In my art, most of my ideas originate from my interaction with the physical world, sometimes evolving to find a bridge to the metaphorical. I enjoy the rigor and vigor of the screen printing medium and its ability to express imagery with profound simplicity. Even after 40 years of printing, the process still challenges me creatively and technically. What keeps me screen printing after so many years? Maybe the endless challenges and surprises, but definitely the vitality and simple beauty. I often choose subjects based on the opportunity to discover new approaches to the design and screen printing process, that demonstrate silkscreen printing’s artistic strength and uniqueness as a medium. For example, in several images in this collection I've substituted black paper for black or dark pigments. Through extensive image deconstruction, floating borderless images, color blends and high-contrast juxtaposition, I seek to leverage the effect of color and project the imaginary onto the real.
Ultimately, my work attempts to affirm the light that surrounds us every day, in the realm of our immediate existence. Apertures open to discoveries - in nature, in color, in each other, in beginnings. Light in the depth of winter. Light in your dog's eyes. Light as positive charge. Light in the cycles of decay and the promise of renewal.
